Barbershop (Not the movie)

Today I went to Wilson’s Barbershop.  It is in the part of downtown Athens named Hot Corner (the coffee shop was named after it).  Its the historically black area of town and given that I’d never been to a black barbershop before, I decided I wanted to shoot it.

I’m not super-stoked about any of the shots, but here were the better ones that came out.

Homer Wilson walks through his barbershop in Athens, Ga. on Feb. 22, 2008.

A Freemason crest adorns the wall of the barbershop.

Joey Wilson takes a phone call while cutting the hair of Charles White.

Charles White has his beard trimmed by Joey Wilson at Wilson’s Barbershop.

Homer Wilson looks over his lunch cooked nextdoor by his family’s other business, Wilson’s Soul Food.
