DIY – Snoots

At the Southern Short Course this weekend I got to listen to David Hobby, of Strobist.com fame, teach about using strobe flashes to replace the big light kits most photographers use. Upon arriving home last night I decided to use his DIY approach to lighting and constructed a snoot for my 580 EX II. I [...]

Trac(k)tion

Shot a track meet down in Gwinnett today for Dawgpost.com, the guys I freelanced high school football and basketball for over the past few months. I’ve shot track once before, but it was a profile about one guy and during a practice (remember assigning that to me Sara?). I got backlogged because of this weekend [...]

SSC & SPJ

This weekend between the Southern Short Course photo competition and the Society of Professional Journalists (Region 3) photo contest I won four individual awards and one for a project I oversaw last summer when I was photo editor at The Red & Black*. Breakdown is as follows, click read more to see the photographs: 1st [...]

Southern Short Course – Visual Hotness

More photos from Charlotte, but these are cool things I saw while walking around the downtown area. A brick art installation in the downtown area. I feel bad for the kids who they had to turn into bricks to make this though.

Southern Short Course – Friends

What good is going somewhere unless you have friends with you? Here are some photos I took yesterday around Charlotte of fellow UGA students as we ventured to the dowwtown area. Jenna Findlan talks on the phone to a potential employer as Jake Clark is reflected in the window of my car.

In other news…

Not photo related, but I wanted to put it out there anyway.  My debate society, The Demosthenian Literary Society won the annual Intersociety Debate tonight against our rivals Phi Kappa.  This breaks a four year skid which had followed a four year win streak. So my hat goes off to the members of this year’s [...]

MLK: 40 Years (Pouya Dianat)

My friend Pouya Dianat has been working on a large project for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the 40th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr. The paper has posted a teaser trailer of the three videos he made and its definitely worth checking out. You can see the trailer by clicking here.

Southern Short Course

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Charlotte, NC for the Southern Short Course.  In honor of this, I will post some photos I took at last year’s. For Kelly and Sara, if you want me to take down the photos of you, let me know. The hand of a “psychic” who looked suspiciously like Michael Jackson [...]

Loose change

Here are some loose ends I forgot to post over the past two weeks. My reshoot of my portrait of Rory redone with the suggestions of Pouya Dianat. Shot this for the ABH on Palm Sunday at the local Catholic Church.

More baseball

Today I shot the baseball game between Tennessee and UGA.  Second time I’ve shot baseball this year, third time ever.  I’m still trying different things out to see what makes good shots. This time I brought a 300mm f/4 lens and the 1.4x extender to see if it could help me with outfield shots.  I [...]
