Today I shot the baseball game between Tennessee and UGA. Second time I’ve shot baseball this year, third time ever. I’m still trying different things out to see what makes good shots.
This time I brought a 300mm f/4 lens and the 1.4x extender to see if it could help me with outfield shots. I was able to get them, but the shots were fairly boring. Here are the better ones from the shoot with some commentary.

Super Fan Mike Woods screaming out at the field, seemed like a good featurish shot. That was shot with the 300mm at f/4, but the DOF still looks narrow as hell if you look at the divider in front of him. He looks pretty sharp though.

I was shooting too long for this one and as a result wasn’t able to compose the frame as well as I would have liked given the speed of the play. Thus, the top of his head got cut off.

This one came out pretty well, although I wish you could see either player’s face better.

This and the next one are almost exactly the same, just different points in the pitch. Which do you prefer?

See above.

A variation of the shots above, but I wanted to add an extra layer into the shot. Still can’t see the pitcher’s face very well, but I like that the ball is tack sharp and you can see the umpire in the background.
