Fire Work(s)ing it

Last Friday I was asked to go shoot a fireworks store to go with a story about the sale of fireworks and how purchasing habits have changed since the drought last summer.  Pretty straight forward. Various fireworks line the shelves of Tommy Boy’s as Jennifer Crosby looks around the store Friday.

Peanut butter is no replacement for real butter

The paper is doing some comparison of different types of peanut butter and they needed a product shot of them all.  The page designers set up the items as they wanted and I figured out the lighting in the studio.  It was actually the first time I’d used actual studio lights before, well when there [...]

Freedom Fest, because freedom isn’t free

Although freedom isn’t free, if you went to Freedom Fest you could in fact get a free lunch.  Lots of free attractions for the kidies, free speeches about freedom for the adults and free lunch for everyone. Bryson Ingram prepares to smash a car at Freedom Fest in Piedmont Saturday.

Legends of the Hidden Temp.. err… Sacred Harp

There is a week long camp for adults and kids in Anniston for Sacred Harp.  I’m still not entirely sure how it is any different from any other type of religious singing, but to go with the photos I did some audio. Click the play button below. Annie Grieshop of Hopkinton, Iowa, holds her Sacred [...]

Mis Amigos

Yesterday I shot this bilingual daycare center that is run by this couple who use the proceeds from the center to run a ministry. Jenniffer Whyte smiles as she holds Jamarcus Davenport at the Mis Amigos daycare center on Thursday.

Anniston from above

Today one of my assignments was to tour around the tallest building in Anniston and get photos of the damage that a fire in 2003 caused.  The building hasn’t been renovated or really touched at all from the second floor up since the fire.  Anyways, I got to go up to the 10th floor where [...]

Ray Bryan against his own party

From what I can tell, this guy named Ray Bryan ran in the primaries for a circuit judge position and won.  Afterwords the Republican Party of Alabama claimed he hadn’t qualified because he missed a filing deadline.  No reason has been given for why he missed the deadline, or for why the party put him [...]

To boldy go where no Georgian has gone before

About an hour ago the Editor-in-Chief of the Anniston Star asked me to take on a special project tomorrow out in Panola, Al.  Apparently at the end of every summer the church there comes together and holds a giant barbecue sale to raise funds for the church. They’ve been doing this since the 1940′s at [...]

Staycation’s all I ever wanted

Earlier in the week I was approached about doing an illustration about “staycations.”  For those that remember, John Stewart made fun of the media’s use of this term over the past few weeks fairly recently. Anyways, they’d already purchased all the props they wanted to use, but it was up to me to figure out [...]

Xtreme Measures

This portraits needs a little context.  The city of Anniston is pulling out their police from patrolling the area of the city this guy lives in.  This is bad news cause this guy’s home has already been robbed twice and his other neighbors several times over the past year or two. He finally had enough [...]
