Funday in the park

There was some event going on called “Funday” today at a local park.  It was cosponsored by the Anniston Housing Authority, the Boys & Girls Club and The Anniston Parks and Recreation Department.  Basically, they got all these inflatable things and let the kids play with them as they got food and got to swim [...]

Blood and guts

The other day the variety section editor had me shoot some exploding tomatos for a cover story she wanted done.  Today the section ran so if you click the link below you can see the full cover with my photo.

Feed the hungry

Its been a fairly slow week at the paper, but yesterday I got a fairly interesting assignment about a soup kitchen in town.  I was pretty excited to go, but when I got there I ran into some problems.  Mainly that almost no one at the kitchen wanted to have their photo taken.  I’m not [...]

More shopping

The story was about the upcoming tax free weekend in Alabama.  So, more photos of people shopping, for clothes…  At least this time I could shoot the kids reaction. Cammy Cochran gives her mother, Camille Chitwood, a look after she holds up an outfit to her daughter in Kohl’s at the Oxford Exchange Monday morning.

The marching band

I went and shot this big “Drum and Bugle Corps” (aka marching band) competition Sunday night.  The big question for me was how was I going to shoot it?  I’d never done anything like this before so I figured I’d try some safe shots of individuals playing, then spend some time doing more experimental shots [...]

Back-to-school shopping

First assignment Sunday was to shoot the local Kiwanis Club’s annual back-to-school shopping event at Martin’s Family Clothing in Oxford.  The event helps children in foster care get new clothes for the school year.  The challenge here was that you can’t show the faces of the children who are in foster care for various reasons. [...]

The bigger picture

So given that this is a photoblog, it is in my best interest to have my photos as large as reasonably possible. One of the advantages of this new blog design is that its really easy to adapt the layout for larger pictures, so once again this summer I am boosting up the size of [...]

More airports, the irony

You’d think after spending time in four different airports earlier this week I wouldn’t see one again for awhile.  Well that would be very presumptive of you.  Its my life and I can do what I want.  Regardless, went to work today and saw I was getting sent to the Anniston airport cause a reporter [...]

New design

Hey everyone, Today I switched over this site over to a new design based on a theme I found. I modified it a small bit, but I think I like it better than the old one. What do you all think? -Josh

Dixie Youth, again

That baseball tournament I shot the other day had their championship game tonight.  Since it was an important game, I couldn’t get away with shooting more abstract shots like I did last time.  So, this time I focused primarily on game action and the other associated feature shots. One thing I tried to do though [...]
