Stickin’ it out – Phillip Pickens

Phillip Pickens plays for Meadowcreek High School.  He is a senior and has only won one game in his high school career.  Despite the adversity, he is one of only two seniors on the team this year to play their entire time in high school

I give him a lot of credit for sticking it out when almost everyone else who started with him gave up.  He was really easy to work with as well.

On a technical note, one of my strobes wasn’t working right so I started the shoot with just a strobe on the left held by Sports Writer Brandon Brigman.  After Brandon did his interview, I was able to get the second strobe working so I asked Phillip if he’d mind taking another minute to let me get some shots with both strobes.  He was happy to help out.

This photo was shot with one strobe, it is the one that ran in the paper.

This was shot with two strobes, the second adding the rim light on his right.  It did not run in the paper.

  1. You really like rim light, don’t you?

  2. I don’t like when a person’s body blends into the background. it separates them out.
