Jane Russell poses outside the Ramsey Center, where she soon will retire as director of recreational sports. In her 32 years at the University, she supervised the creation of the Rec Sports department and the Ramsey Center.

Taking a break from posting stuff from last weekend’s shoot in Walton, here is the first picture of mine in awhile to run in the Red & Black.

This is Jane Russell and she’s been with the university’s recreational sports department for a really long time.

I really like how the lighting turned out in this photo, a lot of which has to do with shooting it at 8:30 am when the sun was still kind of rising.

If I could shoot it again, I’d have changed my angle a bit to get more of the Ramsey Center behind her, and I’d have asked her to cross her arms. It feels very boring, and I think having her arms crossed would add a little body language to the shot that is just missing.

Krystal in Athens

2007-04-28-krystal1.JPG

After spring break I decided I wanted to get out of my apartment more. This in turn led me to head downtown whenever I wanted to do homework.

So I head to College Avenue today and look for a table to sit at while I do some reading and notice that there is a huge psuedo outdoor film studio being set up.

Turns out Krystal was shooting a series of commercials, luckily for me I had my camera handy and began to snap some pictures. I did what I could to get a variety of shots, but the way the location was set up it kind of limited my options.

Despite shooting on an open set, I think I did pretty well.

Over the weekend I worked on a number of stories as mentioned. This is one I did of that tattoo parlor downtown.

I had to go back a number of times to get the shots I needed because the people getting tatoo’d the first time didn’t want to be shot, and then no one was coming in so there was nothing to shoot.

Thankfully, this guy let me shoot him and it all worked out pretty well.
