Photos in Today’s Red & Black

Today is my first day at the Red & Black as Chief Photographer so I don’t have time to do indepth writeups about each photo I had that was printed today. So, as an apology I am including two photos that were printed online exclusively. Enjoy.

Many students are unaware of the University’s efforts to recycle. Athens-Clarke County and the University will participate in a joint effort during football season to improve recycling bin usage around campus on gamedays.

Kasi Carroll and the Bulldogs can guarantee themselves a postseason berth by winning three of their last six games.

No more comments on my softball photos, at least not for this week. Sorry.

Sophomore Chelsea Cantillo said the momentum from the Bulldogs’ first win carried them through the second.

Lots of softball photos this week.

Yesterday I tried moving around to places I’d never taken photos from before to try different angles since there was barely anyone at the game.

Ended up using one of the traditional shots, but at least I’m trying new things.

I’m not superpumped about this photo though acuse there isn’t really a moment. If there was a ball in the shot then yeah, but no ball so no moment.

Maybe if she had just been hit by a pitch or something. Man, why is whats bad for the players good for photographers?

Senior pitcher/infielder Kasi Carroll says the team hasn’t peaked this year, so that’s something the Bulldogs have going for them. Georgia plays its final midweek games of the season this afternoon in a doubleheader against Ole Miss.

There is nothing better then checking the paper in the morning and see a photo you took but didn’t know was going to run.

Anyways, I like the moment. I like the composition. Don’t like the background.

If I could do it again I’d try to get just a bit higher to knock out the trees and have the wall be the top of the image.

Also, I don’t like the glove and her left arm being directly on top of that other player. I could have fixed that by moving to the left a little bit.

It would have put the player between her glove and her body. I just don’t think it works very well the way it does.

Well, at least I got a good expression on her face.

Sophomore infielder Chelsea Cantillo is tagged out by Mississippi State University’s Courtney Bures during Sunday’s game. Georgia lost to MSU with a final score of 12-5.

Softball is one of those sports I’m still trying to get a feel of when I shoot. Granted I’m better at it now than I was when I first started, but I still find it especially difficult.

I’ve kind of figured out that the shot of the person hitting the ball is kind of worthless as you rarely if ever see the person’s face unless you have a large enough zoom, but even then you probably can’t see what they are doing.

Anyways, I like this photo although I wish I had been able to use a longer zoom to get it. I’m glad I got all the action in the shot, everything was in focus, and it was exposed correctly.

Hrm, as I was typing this I got an e-mail from the photo editor of the Mississippi State paper asking for some photos. Cool, I guess I have a new title: Josh Weiss - Syndicated Photographer.
