Tuesday when I got to The Red & Black office I decided to go ahead and put together the Soundslide for AthFest. I wanted to keep it relatively simple so I just used the audio I recorded of one song from Madeline who played Friday night at The 40 Watt. Then I dropped in all the photos that my photographers had selected from their shoots and a few of my own to fill up some space. Anyways, to see the Soundlide click here.

AthFest - Day 2

AthFest Day 2 for me should be known as the day nothing wanted to work. I had a camera die on me, my flash unit stop syncing, and another camera that was so painfully slow it took a full 2 minutes after I took my last photo to finish writing what was in the buffer.

Today I shot the following in top to bottom order as seen by the photos below: Kids playing in a giant foam pit at KidsFest, Allie & The Bandits, The Whigs, and Renegades.

As you can tell, the color is completely blown out on some of the photos cause the lighting was so strange that I had to use a ridiculously high ISO that all the colors became super-saturated or incredibly grainy. It works for some of the photos, but not so well for others.

AthFest - Day 1

Today I went to AthFest to take some photos. I started shooting around 7:00 and focused on feature type stuff then at 9:00 switched over to concert stuff. I shot two shows tonight, but for the sake of not putting 20 images in here I have cut it down to three images total representing what I think is the best of the lot.

Singer Madeline looks out into the crowd between breaths during her AthFest show at The 40 Watt Club in Athens, Ga. Madeline played a 45 minute set highlighting songs off of her album Kissing and Dancing which was released by Plan-It-X Records in 2005.

Photo Editor

One of the perks of being the photo editor at a college paper is that you get to pick your staff and then direct the flow and feel of the photos that appear online and in the paper. With the advent of Sound Slides I get to act as a pseudo director to the project making tweaks as I see fit and necessary.

By clicking this link, you can see the first Sound Slide that was put together this summer by my staff. The photos and audio were shot/recorded over a two day period by Lindy Dugger and Tyler Goforth. Then Tyler spent another two days editing the audio and adding in the photos. After all this I got to sit down and make some tweaks, suggest some visual enhancements like adding names to some of the slides and so on.

The project came out really well and I’m glad I have the staff I do working for me this summer.

Now that I don’t live in Atlanta I’ve begun to find photographic value in many things I once took for granted. Saturday I took a trip to visit a friend who moved into a new house and I decided to drive to Centennial Olympic Park. I remember when the park first opened for the Olympics back in 1996.Here are five of the photos I shot. The lighting was beautiful and I think it really shows in the fourth image, the one with the feet. So, enjoy.
