Blue Skies

I took this photo the other day in class when e were messing around with camera raw.  I liked it and decided to put it up here, which I can do because this is my photoblog.

This is a reworked Conceptual portrait I did for my Photojournalism class the other week. Well, I just reworked it tonight, but I submitted the initial idea the other week.

Anyways, the only difference between this one and the version that will appear in my portfolio is that the background will be white instead of gray. It is gray here to illustrate the effect I was going for when it appears in my portfolio, you can’t tell where the picture ends and the rest of the page begins.

If you are reading the RSS for this, click here to see it on the actual page so it makes sense.

Editorial Cartoonist Bill Richards poses with his rendition of University of Georgia President Michael Adams (top-left) and friend Sean Lovell (bottom-right) in his Athens, Ga. apartment on November 25, 2007. Richards has been cartooning for many years and has worked at The Red & Black since his freshman year in 2004.

High Places and Zoom

The other month I went out searching for standalones for The Red & Black. While looking through my shoot earlier tonight I noticed that at some point during the shoot I had gone to the top of the UGA library and taken some shots.

Here is a nice little sequence I did. Nothing amazing here, but it shows a nice range of focal lengths going from very wide (17mm) to very narrow (200mm).

In this picture, you can see the Journalism Building on the left with Sanford Stadium in the background. Then on the right is the Student Learning Center, with the Tate Center construction immediately behind and O-House a little further back.

The Military ROTC building bottom right, SLC in the middle, O-House in the top-right, and way in the back at the top is the Butts-Mehre building.

Last night I shot the UGA vs. Elon basketball game. I submitted 5 photos to the wire, but the one I figured should definitely be put on the wire didn’t make it.

Billy Humphrey was definitely the focal point of the game scoring more points than anyone on the team in his first game back after a suspension last week.

After noting he was doing pretty well in the first half and this background information, I made sure to include a photo of him when I transmitted at halftime, but the photo never made it to the wire. Kind of a bad decision since the AP story that went with the photos made note of what I just said about Humphrey.

Anyways, I get paid whether the photos get published or not, so whatever.

Also, Rashaad Singleton makes the best faces of all the people on Georgia’s basketball team, see below.
