Wedding: Jenna Findlan and Drew Scott

Saturday morning I got to shoot the beautiful wedding of my friend from college, Jenna Findlan and her husband Drew Scott. I met Jenna when we went through the photojournalism program at UGA and she was always one of the people in the class that I knew I could count on to push me to do better. Jenna’s shot a number of her own weddings too, although she isn’t a full-time photographer, so I was honored when she asked me to shoot her ceremony held at the top of Stone Mountain.

It was a small ceremony and was a very nice change of pace from the bigger weddings I’d been shooting lately. Much luck to the new couple and I hope they are enjoying their honeymoon out in California right now!

On top of the world.

Killbot 3000

Today I went out and got a kitten and named him “Killbot 3000.” The name dates back to when I was a senior in college and my then roommate told me she wanted to get a kitten. I told her I’d be okay with her getting a kitten as long as I got to name it. For whatever reason, I decided that was the name I wanted, but she never got the cat. I don’t think she realized I was very serious about naming it Killbot 3000. Anyway, after about 3 years of putting it off, I finally decided to go out and get myself a kitten. So, I present to you, my Killbot 3000.

My parents came over tonight to get dinner with me and it gave me the perfect opportunity to grab some photos because he was content just to sit there and get petted instead of hiding under the nearest object.

Lighter than air

The other day I came up with a concept for a self-portrait I wanted to do. It wasn’t by any means anything original, I’d just never really done anything like it before and wanted to find the best way to do it. The general idea was to freeze me mid-air doing something.

I set up two lights in my room, but I was lazy so I didn’t softbox them like I should have, and I put my camera on a tripod as low as I could get it. I set the timer to two-seconds and then kept lifting out my legs from under me right as the timer expired. I wasn’t technically jumping because I didn’t want my head to get caught outside of the frame.

Little known fact, I can float.

Random Headshots/Portraits

Over the past few weeks I’ve taken a few portraits and headshots, so here are some of the ones I’m able to publish since they aren’t reliant on anything being published before I can show them.

Brett helped me out the other day and started yawning, but I hadn’t adjusted my settings for my lights yet and this is what happened. Obviously there are a ton of technical problems with this photo, but for whatever reason I liked the way it came out.

Monday afternoon I did some senior portraits of Matt Guiney up in Buford, Ga. We started off shooting the city’s square downtown but then moved over to Buford High School to get some photos of there as well.

Right before the portrait session was supposed to begin, it started raining, but it cleared out right as we started. Well the rain cleared out, not the clouds. However, I decided to try an implement them after Matt’s mother told me what she wanted.

Friday evening I did some headshots and other assorted portraits for singer/actress Jennifer Waldman. We did some studio type shots inside, but then moved out to my balcony. I’m pretty happy with how the shoot turned out.

I decided to keep the light simple so I used one of my White Lightnings along with the largest softbox I had. Nice soft, directional light.

My brother and I went up to Roswell to have dinner with my parents and grandfather. I decided to bring my lights with me and take a family portrait. Unfortunately, I made myself look kind of fat. Lame.

Courtney’s Study Time

Last week my friend Courtney camped out at the local Carribou Coffee for the day while she studied for her classes so I went and kept her company for an hour or two.

She didn’t think she was photogenic so I had to work with what she gave me.
