The Great Atlanta Flood, 2009

As many of you know, there was an abnormal amount of rain on Monday that led to many areas of the region being left under water. While I was not affected, although an area less than 5 miles from my apartment was, I spent the first part of the day inside.
Around 2:30 though, I got [...]

Football: Brookwood @ North Gwinnett

Week two of high school football sent me to North Gwinnett in Suwanee.  This week they faced off against Brookwood High School out of Snellville, but the game more or less ended when Brookwood walked on the field.  After years of dominance in the late 90’s and early 00’s, Brookwood is just mediocre these days.
Here [...]

Luck has nothing to do with it… or maybe it does

This guy sunk two holes-in-one during one round of golf and then won money in the lottery that night.  Yeah.

Charlie McMenomy sunk two holes-in-one at the Summit Chase golf course recently. The former South Gwinnett High School tight end also won money in the lottery that night.

The South shall rise again

Last night South Gwinnett played my first high school, Centennial, during the second round of the state tournament.  Apparently Centennial was heavily favored, but South hung in and won after 2 overtimes.
Normally overtime, or close games in general make me nervous because I have to make a decision about which story I am going to [...]

Ronald Reagan gave me a sore arm

Yesterday was the 12th Annual Run the Reagan road race in Snellville.  For those not in the know, Ronald Reagan Parkway is a limited access road that goes from Pleasant Hill Road in Lilburn to Scenic Highway in Snellville.
Anyways, over 3,100 people showed up to participate in one of the many races taking place this [...]

Mario Vasser

Another set of portraits I shot earlier in the basketball season.    This one is of Mario Vasser from South Gwinnett High School in Snellville.

I used extra unsharp mask on this one to create the high contrast affect, the one below the cut ran in the paper.

Buzz off

Quiz bowl about books for kids in grades 4 through 12.

Stripling Elementary’s Aubrey Carter prepares to buzz in as a question is being read during Saturday’s Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Readers Rally at Shiloh High School. More than 60 schools were represented at the competition.

In more ways than one

What else does this remind me of that happened today?
I was driving around looking for a stand alone for tomorrow’s paper thinking about a number of things, then I came across this.

Gwinnett County Firefighters and Police work to rescue a woman trapped in her car after flipping while coming down the off-ramp from Ronald Reagan [...]

Meadowcreek vs South Gwinnett (MBB)

High school basketball tonight at South Gwinnett High School. Both teams are doing pretty well with one loss each, I believe.  Game went to the buzzer and I got some decent stuff out of it.

Meadowcreek’s Charles Johnson (1) jumps into the arms of teammate Jarvis Brown (11) after the team narrowly defeated South Gwinnett at [...]

Sing loud, sing proud

Earlier in the week I shot a choir at Shiloh High School that will be traveling to DC to be part of the inauguration.  When I got to the class they were already singing so I assumed that that would be the group going.  Turns out it wasn’t, the actually choir that was going practiced [...]
