Victorian

When I was little I was convinced I wanted to be an architect. I used to spend hours playing around in home CAD programs. Even though I ultimately went a different path, I still find myself drawn to architecture. Maybe it's the geometry. My brain tends to run really organized and I like when things make geometric sense.

Anyway, here is an illustration I did based on some trips to San Francisco the past few months.

Octopus

Earlier this year I bought and iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and it's really helped me with drawing more. I think I always hated how with an eraser on real paper you never could quite perfectly erase mistakes. It's a lot easier to do digitally, obviously, so I find myself picking it up more to try random things then I did when I only had a notebook and pencils/pens.

New Style

Saw a style of illustration I liked and wanted to try my hand at it.

A Mom and her Cub

Had some extra time today so I played around more with adding illustration into real scenes. I pulled this old portrait I shot a few years ago of one of my friends and her son to use as the bass.

Frogs and Gretas

A few months ago I bought an iPad Pro. I liked the appeal of being able to draw directly onto a screen instead of via a Wacom tablet and monitor.

Over the past few months I started out just doing straight illustration, but I've always liked the idea of combining illustration with photos.

This is something I threw together tonight. It's a photo of my friend Greta that I took earlier in the month while I was in Atlanta.

It's nothing crazy, I figured I'd start small and work my way up to more advanced stuff. I want to get more conceptual too obviously. Anyway, thank you for taking a look.

Don’t be Jelly

Sometimes dumb things pop into my head, like the idea of a jealous peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Figured I'd go ahead and make it.

Tablet Illustration

Earlier this year I bought an iPad Pro. The prospect of having a computer that I could draw directly on intrigued me for letting and illustration work. What I basically discovered was that I was super out-of-practice for hand illustration (as opposed to vector). As a result, I made a project for myself wherein I started illustrating different photos of my friends until I was back up to speed.

To keep this short, I did a bunch until I had regained some of my confidence. One in particular though really stood out to me, it was of my friend Greta. You can see it below.
