1.21 GIGAWATTS OF FANSERVICE
In Back to the Future, Toyota was represented by both Hill Valley’s Statler Toyota and a custom 1986 HiLux 4×4. We decided to bring back both for Back to the Future Day on October 21, 2015, the day Marty and Doc Brown travel to in the future in the second film.
We started out by releasing a teaser on Oct. 15th and ended with a 1:1 scale model of the Back ot the Future pickup built out as the newly redesigned Tacoma inside a giant toy box at Hollywood & Highland and Times Square.
LAUNCH VIDEO
PHONE
The goal of the videos was to get people to call 1-877-Statler to receive information about our installations and request a “Statler Toyota” license plate holder. We sold out or initial order of plates in 40 minutes. Each plate shipped came with a hand signed thank you note from Statler Toyota.

ACTIVATION
On the actual Back to the Future Day we built life-size toy packages for our custom 2016 Tacoma’s in Times Square and at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. In Dallas we sent the Tacoma around on a flatbed with a sign for Statler Toyota that paid homage to the movie. We also gave toy replicas in matching packaging to people who came out.
SOCIAL
I doubled as the photographer for this project so that we’d have images for our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
